Press release for the Tin Shed HLF Grant
Laugharne’s Tin Shed Experience wins Heritage Lottery Grant support for renovation and conservation project
The Tin Shed Experience, a quirky 1940s museum in Laugharne with a focus on local stories and places, has won a grant of £21,100 from the Heritage Lottery’s ‘Our Heritage’ Fund. The grant will safeguard both its premises and the artifacts in its collection. The project will include renewal of the roof of the main building (the former Bellevue Garage dating to 1933) and so prevent rainwater threatening both the fabric of the structure and the objects inside.
The museum has been drawing in visitors to the Township since its Directors, Andrew Isaacs and Seimon Pugh-Jones established it in 2011 and it has since earned a reputation as one of Carmarthenshire’s top attractions (see TripAdvisor). Since tourism is Laugharne’s main ‘industry’, the knock-on effects of higher visitor numbers also benefits many other local businesses. The grant-funded work will ensure the sustainability of the attraction as well as extend its opening season into the winter months since the fund will also cover the installation of heating – fans of the Shed will be delighted to hear this!
The team at the Tin Shed also plan to use elements of the funding to train a number of new volunteer guides and to employ an outreach worker to link the Shed’s Experience to a wider audience.
Directors Seimon and Andrew said “There’s an awful lot of hard work starting soon – the grant obviously has stringent reporting conditions and timescales but we are ready to take this on. It will be really worthwhile to keep this museum in the heart of this historic community, as well as help us meet our duty of care to the donors of items in the museum’s collections.”
